Chewy’s June Surprise

For the month of June, Chewy sent us packets of Instinct by Nature’s Variety Healthy Cravings Beef Recipe Grain-Free Wet Dog Food Topper. They came in small foil packets. And each one is 3 oz.

According to the company, “the topper is made of wholesome, real chicken in gravy recipe makes the perfect dry food topper or meal enhancer. A grain-free and gluten-free option that’s perfect for dogs with gluten intolerance. Does not contain any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. Dogs of all ages and breeds can enjoy this moisture-rich for added hydration and it is made without any corn, wheat or soy for a pure delicious beef taste.”

Currently, my Cavalier Ginger is on a dry food diet and I do like to use toppers just to change things up a bit. When we received our samples we had a special guest named Bogey and he too wanted to participate in the taste test, as he eats dry kibble as well.

The packets were very east to open. When I poured in onto Ginger and Bogeys dish the chunks were about the size of their kibble and there was a lot of gravy.  I mixed the topper with the food and gave it to the pups to try. Well as you can see by the photos they annihilated it. They ate it all and were licking the bowls.

I have to say that this was a hit! I especially like the product because there are minimal ingredients and it’s gluten free and made in the USA. One thing about the product that did confuse me a bit is that chicken is listed as an ingredient. Not sure why that is, since it says on the packet “Real Beef Recipe in Savory Sauce” recipe. So that’s something to take into consideration especially if your dog is allergic to chicken. Other than that I think the product is great, if your dog is a gravy lover they will love this!

The product does come in other flavors that I would definitely try.  I would definitely purchase this and refer it to Ginger’s pals in case they were interested in a topper.
