Chewy’s October Surprise

Chewy's October influencer review

For the month of October, Chewy sent us two items.  One is the Blue Buffalo Halloween BOO Bars.   As per the website the bars are oven-baked with added vitamins & minerals. The bars do not contain corn, wheat, or soy, and no by-product meals.

The ingredients are as follows:   Oatmeal, Barley, Oat Flour, Pumpkin, Flaxseed (source of Omega 3 and 6 Fatty Acids), Cane Molasses, Carrots, Salt, Canola Oil (source of Omega 6 Fatty Acids), Cinnamon, Calcium Carbonate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of Vitamin C), preserved with Mixed Tocopherols and Oil of Rosemary, Vitamin E Supplement

When we received the bars I thought the packaging was adorable with the Halloween themed mummy.  When I opened the bag you can really smell the cinnamon and because they have no meat in them I wasn’t sure if Ginger would like them.  The bars which are more like biscuits come in three shapes, a pumpkin, ghost and bat.   They are small and you can easily snap them in half.

I gave one to Ginger and she absolutely loved it.   These are great to keep on hand during Halloween.  Many trick or treaters bring their pups along and we will be able to share some with them.  Because of their cute Halloween designs we made 2 treats bags to share with our neighbors dogs.  These are definitely a keeper.  I especially love that they are made in the USA.

The second item we received was the Comfort Zone with Feliway Cat Diffuser. As you may or may not know Ginger has 2 feline brothers named Trinidad and Tobago, so we thought we would try this item since they can get into mischief some times.

The package contained one diffuser and one 48-ml bottle. One bottle lasts 4 weeks and treats 500-650 sq. ft.

This is a plug in diffuser that works by using a heating element to disperse the pheromone into the air. Apparently once it heats up the cat breathes in the pheromone and it attaches to a receptive organ, called the vomer nasal organ located in the nasal cavity. The vomer nasal organ than signals the brain, via nerves, and a sense of well-being is established.

According to the website some of the key benefits are that it’s non-toxic, drug-free, odorless vapor that mimics a cat’s natural calming pheromones. This vapor signals to your cat that the area is friendly and safe, reducing your cat’s need to spray and scratch. Reduces or completely stops stress-related behaviors such as; scratching, spraying, and more. Helps comfort cats in stressful situations such as: being alone in the house, visitors to the home, new pet or family member, moving to a new home, visits to the veterinarian, adjusting to a new environment or multiple cat households.

Comfort Zone products with Feliway are clinically proven to help reduce vertical scratching and urine spraying in 9 out of 10 cats in 28 days.   Now I just want to add that we adopted 2 siblings a few years ago. One of the cats has had marking issues in the past and the other tends to be skittish. I’ve had the device plugged in for about 3 days now. I have not seen a difference but in all fairness the packaging does say 28 days so this is the type of item that I will have to write about again next month.

The pheromones are as follows: Analogue of Feline Facial Pheromone: 2%. Isoparaffinic Hydrocarbon (A Petroleum Distillate): 100g.

Interestingly, I cannot smell anything in the area where it’s plugged but it’s not to say that the cats can’t.

Keep in mind that you do have to purchase cartridge refills every month so that is something to consider.

There is also a caution warning on the package that reads as follows: HAZARDS TO HUMANS: Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Call physician immediately. Keep out of reach of children. Read label and insert prior to use.

I do love the concept and I hope that it does work but it’s just too early to tell. I also noticed that the company sells one for multi-cats so that is something I may be interested in trying.
