Chewy’s January Surprise

For the month of January, Chewy sent us Blue Buffalo Blue Stix Pepperoni Style dog treats.

As per Blue Buffalo some of the key benefits include:

  • Made with 100% real, protein-rich lamb and contain absolutely no artificial flavors, colors or preservatives.
  • Are free from soy, corn and wheat, making them a great choice for pups with food allergies.
  • Contain zero chicken or poultry by-product meals and are packed with real fruit and veggies.
  • Treats are also contain oatmeal, brown rice and sweet potatoes which are great sources of essential vitamins and minerals.

Although these treats are not grain free we decided to try the lamb flavor. I have read that lamb is a better option for dogs that suffer from food allergies. I also like that they are made in the USA. These came in a 6 oz. bag and were about 3 inches long and are were very moist.

We didn’t have any guests staying with us so Ginger had the bag of treats all to herself. I gave her one, she took a quick sniff and ate it. She seemed to really enjoy the flavor and wanted more.

I would give these treats a definite A+ for flavor since Ginger seemed to enjoy them. Not sure if I would purchase them being that chicken meal is listed as the second ingredients.  Something to look out for especially if your dog has a chicken allergy. They also have a very strong smoky scent. Chewys website also states that these BLUE Stix are not appropriate for puppies and dogs less than 5 lbs. Not sure why that is, but it’s something to keep in mind.

The ingredients are as follows:

Lamb, Chicken Meal, Oatmeal, Potatoes, Vegetable Glycerin, Gelatin, Sugar, Maple Sugar, Dried Beet Pulp, Brown Rice, Sweet Potatoes, Natural Flavor, Flaxseed, Salt, Natural Smoke Flavor, Dried Cultured Skim Milk, Blueberries, Carrots, Apple, Preserved With Lactic Acid, Citric Acid And Mixed Tocopherols, Oil Of Rosemary.

Caloric Content:   3,364 kcal/kg, 28.5 kcal/Stix

If you are interested in purchasing these and trying them for yourself you can purchase them here

*Disclaimer: I received this item free of charge from Chewy.com in an exchange for my honest review.
