Chewy’s March Surprise!

Canidae Bison Pumpkin treat and VetriScience Dog Multivitamins

Canidae Bison Pumpkin treat and VetriScience Dog Multivitamins

For the month of March, I was interested in trying out two new items. First was the Canidae’s grain-free pure Bison & Pumpkin Chewy Dog Treats. I love Canidae and have found most of their treats to be excellent. I thought Bison and Pumpkin was an interesting combination.

According to the company, these exotic treats have a soft-baked texture and each is just 26 calories, so they’re perfect for rewarding. These have been formulated for gentle digestion. They are made without gluten, grains, antibiotics, hormones, corn, wheat or soy. They’re also formulated to provide your pet with vital ingredients that will help keep your sensitive pet in tip-top shape.

These came in a 6 oz. bag and seemed very fresh and moist when I opened the bag. Below is a picture of what the treats look like.

As far as taste goes, Ginger absolutely loved them. They had a sweet smell to them and she seemed to really enjoy the taste. No surprise there, again she has always enjoyed Canidae treats, they always seem to use top-notch ingredients but most importantly, their treats are made in the USA.

The other item we decided to try was VetriScience’s Canine Plus Multivitamin Everyday Health Bite-Sized Dog Chews.

I wanted to try these being that Ginger is on a cooked diet.  While a cooked diet can be nutritional, it may be hard to determine exactly how much of each vitamin they are getting so supplementing with a multi-vitamin may be a good idea. If your dog is eating kibble, the food may already contain all the vitamins that they need. Remember every dog is different, this is what has been working for Ginger. Please consult with your vet before you change your dog’s diet or decide to supplement with any vitamin.

These came in a 3.7 ounce bag and contained 30 bite sized chew that are shaped like dog bones.

These are small bone shaped moist chews.

The company states that the vitamins contain over 30 ingredients to support peak condition in dogs of all sizes and ages. They are formulated with a balance of amino acids, fish oil omegas, and B vitamins. These vitamins are designed to help maintain the overall physical well-being of your dog no matter his size, age, or breed.

VetriScience Dog MultivitaminsThe company also states that the vitamins are manufactured in the USA.  I have to add that according to the package, some of the ingredients are domestic as well as imported.  I suppose if you want more information, you can contact the company directly.

According to packaging, these must be administered by weight.

UNDER 30 LBS 1/2 chew
30 – 60 LBS 1 chew
OVER 60 LBS 2 chews

Because Ginger is 15 pounds I gave her 1/2 a chew.  She refused it and didn’t seem to care for the flavor.  I then went ahead and placed 1/2 a chew in her dinner and she did eat since it was mixed with her food.

As far as taste, Ginger did not like it.  Honestly, I probably would not purchase these.  Ginger didn’t seem to like the flavor and I’m not big on buying treats in which I’m not sure where all the ingredients are coming from.

On the other hand, Canidae’s grain-free pure Bison & Pumpkin Chewy Dog Treats, those I would definitely purchase.  She absolutely loved them and again I have always been happy with the ingredients and pricing of their products.
